  • Dr. Ann McHugh, Practice Owner

Dr. McHugh is a native of Overland Park, Kansas. She established the Lionsgate Pet Hospital in October 2003, and her practice continues to flourish. She has one daughter Sarah, who shares her love of animals. In their spare time, Dr. McHugh and her daughter enjoy training and competing in canine agility with their 2 dogs.
Her respect for animals was kindled early in her childhood. The youngest of 8 children, she and her siblings had dogs, cats, horses, and rabbits among other pets. She graduated from the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1988.
Early in her career, Dr. McHugh had the opportunity to establish and operate a small animal community practice within the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. She also taught preventive medicine and clinical skills to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. This reinforced her dedication to high quality medicine and surgery which she employs in her practice today.
Dr. McHugh is the recipient of the 2004 Veterinary Humanitarian of the Year Award, presented by the Greater Kansas City Humane Society and voted by her clients. She continues her service to the community by supporting service projects for Boy and Girl Scouts, giving tours and seminars, and as a Hospice volunteer.

  • Llora Cook, Hospital Supervisor, RVT

Growing up in Kirksville, MO, I learned at a young age to love and care for animals from my parents and grandparents. Following my heart, I became a registered Veterinary Technician in 1995 after receiving a BS in Animal Science at Maple Woods Community College.
I have been at the LionsGate Pet Hospital since its beginning in October of 2003. Having had the opportunity to work with Dr. McHugh six years prior to that, I was eager to join her at her new hospital.
In addition, I am also able to provide in-home pet care with my ˜Mobile Care™ pet-sitting service.  When not working I enjoy spending time with my husband Scott, our dog, 2 cats, and tortoise at our home outside of Tonganoxie. Activities we enjoy together include hiking, biking, and kayaking.

    Rachel Downtain, Office Manager

Growing up in Dallas, I began volunteering at a young age for the Texas Humane Society. That is how my family obtained our second family pet! I moved to the Kansas City area to attend college, and worked at a vet clinic for five years while attending school.
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Therapy from the UMKC-Conservatory of Music and a Master's of Science in Management. After doing rescue work for many years, I am thrilled to be working with animals and their people again at LionsGate Pet Hospital. I call Overland Park home with my son Grayson.
    Education:
    UMKC and Baker University
  • Jenni Segraves, Veterinary Technician

I grew up in central Kansas, then lived in Lawrence for eight years before moving to Colorado to be a nanny for a sick niece for a couple of years. While in Colorado, I attended Bel-Rea, an AVMA accredited veterinary technology school. I went on to work at a clinic in Colorado for over a year before deciding it was time to move home to Kansas. I grew up with dogs and love them to death, but working as a vet tech for a few years has also really turned me into a cat person! I have also spent a little time working with snakes and bearded dragons. When I am not at work, I spend my time reading, watching tv, or being with family. I have two young adult cats (Studley and Myrnin) and a geriatric dachshund (Maggie).

    Jess Hedding, Veterinary Technician

I'm a small town girl from Paola, KS. Growing up I lived in the country with lots of different kinds of pets. Following my passion for animals, I started working in the veterinary field when I was a sophomore in high school. I then attended Allen County Community College and graduated with my Associate of Science degree.  Since then I have been working as a vet tech. I am now living in Olathe with my 2 dogs, Ella and Jax. We enjoy going to the dog park as much as we can.
  • Jorie Franklin, RVT

I have always had a special love for animals and I was lucky enough to grow up with dogs, horses, cats, hamsters, rabbits and even ducks. I graduated from the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance. I'm married to my best friend, Chris, and we have 2 boys, Josh and Collin. About 5 years ago, I decided to finally follow my passion for animals and started working at the animal shelter, which opened the door for me to go back to school and get my Associates degree in Veterinary Technology. I became a Registered Veterinary Technician in March 2016 and I absolutely love my job. My husband and I live in Olathe along with our boys, 2 dogs, a cat and a couple of gerbils.
  • Deb Bauman, Veterinary Assistant

I grew up in Overland Park and graduated from KU with a degree in Journalism. After a 25-year career in Advertising/Marketing in Atlanta, North Carolina and Hartford, CT, I decided to embrace my passion for animals by starting an in-home Pet Care/Training business.
I began working part-time at Lionsgate Pet Hospital in October 2014, and have found it to be a perfect complement to my business, enabling me to continue learning and helping pets thrive.

    Jodi Schwieger, Receptionist

I have always been an animal lover and am so fortunate I get to meet so many great people and their wonderful pets here at Lionsgate Pet Hospital.
I am originally from Nebraska, but have called Overland Park home for almost 20 years.  I live here with my three awesome boys and one spoiled dog. I enjoy spending time outdoors and going to my boys' sporting events.
  • Ashley Krone, Receptionist

I grew up all over the country with the help of a military family, finally settling in Olathe for the past 10 years. We came to Lionsgate Pet Hospital when we adopted our family puppy Jasper in ’09, introducing us to Dr. McHugh. In 2015, I received my new puppy Luna, and came straight to Lionsgate, where I met Rachel and had the fortunate opportunity to become a receptionist. I work part-time here and at Starbucks while I go to school.
  • Leslie Ratterman, Receptionist

I've grown up in the Midwest and have been in the Kansas City area for the last 24 years. I am married to a wonderful man and have two beautiful children. I grew up with dogs in our family so pets have always been a part of my world. As our kids have grown older, my husband and I expanded our love for the outdoors and opened APEX Climbing gym. Since then, the opportunity to follow my passion was filled by accepting a position here. Ask anyone who knows me how much I love my job and the people and animals I get to interact with.  When I'm not working, I enjoy hiking, swimming, riding my bike and spending time with my family.  The newest member of our family is our yellow lab Nellie. She makes us laugh everyday.
  • Carlyene Zinkiewicz, Groomer

My parents told me that when I was a little girl, I was afraid of every animal except for my Aunt's big fluffy Samoyed named Yo-Yo.  Shortly after falling in love with Yo-Yo, my parents gave me my first cat who I named Trouble.  From the moment I got Trouble, I have loved every animal I come across.
When I was a teenage, I volunteered at my local veterinary office.  In 2006, I started working as a Grooming Assistant.  I became an official Pet Stylist in 2008 and in 2011, I became certified to groom cats as well.  I joined Lionsgate in the Spring of 2017 and have loved everything from the awesome staff to the furry clients!
